Von Gutenberg Recommends: 1000 Tattoos by Taschen

search The new 1000 Tattoos by Taschen is a chock-full little hardcover. Not only are we treated to some amazing pictures of tattoos (and the people sporting them) but in usual inimitable Taschen style we get plenty of text about the history of ‘wearable art’. 19th century engravings and tribal body art are on display here. Classic biker designs and colorful famous circus ladies are revealed. There are designs featured from Japan and other ports-of-call of sailors. And the book includes modern day examples of folks who live what used to be an alternative lifestyle either by being tattooed or working in the field…or both.

As you will recall, Von Gutenberg issue # 8 is tattoo themed. We feature TLC “New York Ink” TV star Megan Massacre on our cover (and in a stunning pictorial between our pages.) We also featured model Soma Snakeoil (among other ladies in that issue) a provocative woman who sports quite some interesting ink herself. We have art and photo essays in number eight revealing lots of tatted skin and even a “Best of Celebrity” tats essay. Really, we are no strangers to the tattoo lifestyle sensibility. And of course as latex devotes we find a kinship to any subculture that defines itself by a specific mark, clothing or interest. This is why issue number eight is tattoo themed and why this new Taschen book thrills us so.

Taschen books also thrill us simply because we know well the consistent quality of the house. This provocative publisher with its many stores throughout the world (in cities like London, New York and Berlin to name a few) continues to publish books of high art and design. They also hit on the avant-garde and sneak in lots of sex in their hardcovers. Known as much for their tomes like “The Big Book of Breasts” and Liz Earl’s self-researched ‘Cougar” status, Taschen also publishes books on architecture, The Beatles, big coffee-table hardcovers on specific cities, movies and comics…and this tattoo book. The visual-no matter the subject-married with an always informed background on the subject (presented in 3 languages in each book) is what makes a Taschen book what it is.

Thanksgiving and Beyond For Latex Lovers

Thanksgiving-Turkey-DinnerRest assured that pretty much this time of year in the U.S. things are getting more than a bit wacky with all the running around to and from relatives and friends, people stuffing themselves too full with stuffing (and just about everything else), plenty of freezin shoppers waiting on line really early the day after Thanksgiving to buy a T.V. or toy really cheap. This year Chanukah (or do you spell it Hanukkah?) is upon our Jewish friends and families the day before the bird making the mad rush even madder. And give it a few weeks we’ll be into Christmas and then Kwanzaa and New Years too.

What’s a latex lover to do when our waistbands threatens to blow with all the goodies one eats and how can one get to a self respecting fantasy event when God knows there’s just so many other parties to attend and the malls are so crowded you can’t get around in any reasonable time!

Let’s face it, nobody is fashionable at all in those garish holiday sweaters, and though plenty of us own latex couture in green and red, the minute the bird gets put down it becomes a difficult month and half or so of trying to get one’s kink on, our fashion Jones fed and anything approaching a usual schedule of anything unusual truly difficult to facilitate.

It might just be a good time to stay in close, warm up to the fire with somebody you want to be close with-or even just yourself-and give the new Von Gutenberg #8 a look-see. It’s got a warm pink-like holiday color cover with Megan Massacre on the front…and it makes a great gift as well. You can get it any of these ways: (for Apple devices: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id559950917?mt=8 for Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vongutenberg.vongutenberg, Kindle: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dmobile-apps&field-keywords=von+gutenberg and print: http://www.vongutenberg.com/shop/Von-Gutenberg-Magazine-Issue-8.html

Or if I forgo the hard sell I guess my main advice for latex lovers for Thanksgiving and the holidays beyond is to flaunt it when you know you can but if your among sedate relatives who don’t know your particular fashion sense, give yourself a thrill by wearing what thrills you under a shirt or pants or mix and match something latex or leather into your dress-up clothes.

Either way, we here at Von Gutenberg wish you all a very happy, healthy and safe Thanksgiving, and Chanukah…and Christmas and Kwanzaa too.

So, Who Says What's Kinky?

Yes the weekend you are your play partner are at might be labeled a marquis kinky event. Yes, you might frequent Fetlife or shop in stores known for their adult toys (I have been lucky to hit one’s in London, NYC, L.A. and San Francisco-strictly for research purposes of course); you might even spend time with people who read Von Gutenberg magazine or you have turned-on a few folks to our pages; you might brag about a wardrobe that competes with our couture line, found here.

But rest assured, no matter how much you play, ruminate over or share some time with like-minded folk, nobody but nobody has a clear definition of what kinky really is.

And that’s the way it should be; one’s man meat is another’s poison and all that. If playing airline pilot and stewardess is your thing, then have it, just don’t try and convince me that this is the apogee of kinky then I’m into wearing my Jackboots everywhere and get-off on making my lover smell the sweaty socks I wear with them. I double-dog dare you to convince me that you have the clear objective definition of what kinky is, because I assure you you don’t.

Von Gutenberg is a decidedly lifestyle fetish magazine, more often than not showcasing latex and leather but you will see by our articles or all the kinky events we list on our Fantasy Event List that we include as many interests and happenings as we come in contact with and are always on the look-out for more.

From the mild to the wild it is up to you to determine which, if either works in your life and your specific definition of both.

We Are Here To Hear

The kinky endeavors of pirates sailing on this sea we call life to bring a little sparkling naughtiness to their day leads one to many a diversion and…to be blunt, it’s about all anyone of us can do to get-off these days! Especially if one happens to be tickled by latex, if leather and lace spikes your libido or a tight-fitting gas mask on you or your lover (or one for each of you) is going to do it, you might have to search a bit to get your groove on. We try here at Von Gutenberg to explore our lifestyle’s needs but who is to say what is specifically arousing to you, what might be the one kinky event or party of the year that’s going to get you up off the couch and dressed, what designer is going to just happen to make the outfit you have to have or what story or essay you read is going to set your tail feathers awagging?

We really have no clue what’s on any one individual’s mind so we try to cover as many bases as we can without whittling ourselves down too thin and at the same time writing about, photographing, listing in our fantasy event list and offering for sale, stuff that “gets our ghost” as ole P.J. Soles said in the original Halloween. It’s just not possible to be all things to all lifestylers but we hope we can interest as many of you as we can and that maybe a doorway will be cracked open from your reading about a wild party or some naughty event, that you will get off over one of our marquis world renown designers or you will come to fantasize over one of our many models…really it’s the least we can hope for. First and foremost we produce the magazine because we are, like you, interested in all this ‘stuff’ and we just hope that you come along for the ride.

God knows there would be no ride without you!

Really, use the links below to drop us a line from time to time, email us and leave comments too. Erik and I personally respond to every piece of mail that comes through and we do want to know what you think.

We hope you know we are here for you and as such want to hear from you.

Reveling In One's Community

We all do what we do, get into what we are into, live, love, enjoy or reject what we do for a whole host of reasons. You might be into leather boots, your girlfriend into cooking, your next door neighbor into video games and the couple down the street might love to go antiquing on the weekend…and they might not even be a gay male couple. We just do what we do because we do it, sometimes there is no more reason that then.

I was reminded this week of the many facets of our interests when I attended NYC’s Comicon at the sprawling Javitz Center. I know lots of us have been to conventions, events, parties, weekend get-a-ways for our particular interests and/or fetishes, but I have to tell you the tons of folks who attend Comicon are a zealot, fun breed.

First of all, about 40% of this crowd is dressed, dressed in such amazing homemade costumes of Lycra, leather and other materials it would make any lifestyle fetishist chartreuse with envy. Secondly, these folks-and it’s not just light-shy teenage boys that populate these conventions as it was when I hit the second-ever Star Trek convention back in the day so many years ago I won’t dare admit to you now what year that was-I saw a great cross section of old and young, male and female at Comicon. And lastly, there is so much stuff at Comicon you could get lost picking out a leather corset (yes, we were well represented in this crowd, believe me) as much as those comics you have been looking for the past decade or so.

But mostly this convention tickled me (as Exxxotica will do in a few weeks here in NJ) as TES Fest did and does for me every July 4th weekend and as any of the events you will find on our FantasyEventList site do. When I see like-minded people reveling in their interest, no matter what that interest might my ever-dwindling faith in human kind is bolstered.

A weekend full of gaming, NYC hotdogs and girls dressed as their favorite Anima characters… all is good in the hood my friends.

Covered

I’ve been on about this subject before, for various reasons and prompted by various moments in my life, but as I just went through that lubing session for us here at the magazine recently and having had a discussion with a buddy just the other day about how certain clothes fit certain women in certain ways, I think the older I get the more I really do like it, whatever it happens to be being, things covered on a lady.

With the latex I lubed, the way it stretched and held the various parts of our model truly cemented the idea that what was covered and only slightly revealed through that covering, was very enticing indeed. That the material our Von Gutenberg lady wore wasn’t just sexy because it shone really great in the camera lights (thanks to yours truly lubing it) but it was sexy because of how it held the lady’s body and didn’t reveal her.  Yes, I could make-out contours, ridges and the occasional separation of the lady’s amazing church and states-if you know what I mean-but I also got to appreciate the outfits for what they were, from catsuit to a naughty latex nurse dress to the various other forms and play things.

Lots of stuff like it can be found here: VG COUTURE

I guess my point is: I don’t need to see a lady all naked like to be excited by that lady. And while yes, I did lube some bare skin as was asked of me (really, I went kicking and screaming into this job I can tell you) I also found that lubing the woman over the latex she wore was nice to. Maybe it’s the fact that latex really does feel like a second skin, maybe it’s  that the outfits were super sexy or maybe it’s just that the older I get the more mature I become and can appreciate the subtletiesof life.
Nah, I doubt it’s that last one.

I just think that although clothes never make the women they sometimes can be quite nice on a woman when she is covered by them.

Seduction and jaded sensibilities

So, what are you wearing?

We don’t find ourselves asking this question so much anymore. It’s like making an obscene phone call these days, technology has more or less robbed us of certain ways of expressing our sexuality. With caller ID we will get found-out if we attempt a panting phone call to our neighbor and cams and sexting really get in the way of your girlfriend/boyfriend describing their jammies to you…they can just take a picture and shoot it over to you for some quick masturbation. We don’t need to imagine, wonder or describe and I’m not sure we are all that better because of it.

In a way what we do here at Von Gutenberg is try to retain some semblance of the mystique, maintain the balance between showing too much and showing not enough. It’s not easy of course when a lot of what you do is built around showing nicely built ladies in tight latex wear, but we know there are plenty of magazines and websites that show copious amounts of skin; we try and err on the side of enticing, teasing, entertaining with just enough.

Jaded sensibilities aside, how much of all of it do we want anyway? As we grow older we learn that arousal and seduction are as much about a buttoned-down blouse buttoned down to reveal a hint of cleavage as they are about a pair of slacks fitting a man just snug enough we can discern contours but not be transfixed by bulges. It is as much the high tough scent of our leather jacket as it is how it fits snugly across us that makes it so interesting to wear. It’s as much the ‘click a click’ of a pair of heels crossing a wooden floor as how tall a girl or guy is wearing them.

Is our modern age bleeding these nuisances from us, I do not know.  Is it because I am well over 40 that I come to regard my sexuality this way, I’m not sure. All I do know is that it’s nice on occasion to  have an upper thigh flash across my field of vision and nothing more. That I do like to take a gander at the clothes at www.vongutenbergcouture.com and imagine them on a lady and that I do like to, on occasion, ask someone I am on the phone with..hey, what are you wearing?

Missing The Bikini

I just realized while enjoying an unusually calm cool day for August in New Jersey that this summer passed me by without me having spied one bikini! Now, it’ not that I put myself in areas where bikinis might have been these past three months-namely beaches and pools-but I do like gander at a bikini on occasion and not just hanging on a store mannequin but on a real life lady. I’m not sure if this speaks more to my sedentary recent writing life, my fear of crowds at the Jersey shore (the place, not the T.V.  show, though the T.V. show Jersey Shore does bring crowds to the place where the T.V. is filmed) or just the fact that as I grow older I attend less pool parties and summer-time outings.

Either way, I missed me some bikinis.
And not just bikinis. All the variations on swim suits the lasses wearing this summer. I didn’t even get to see any new styles or pant over what-all-the-kids-are-wearing (and by kids, I mean post 18 year old’s, please!). Sure, I keep-up with all the latest in latex, working for Von Gutenberg how could I not? I peruse our shop all the time and will have occasion to spend some eye-balling moments interviewing our upcoming models (more about them as we put issue #6 together), but as far as a tight elastic bottom of a bathing suit rising up over the downy side of a long thigh or the snuggle and pop of a slice of errant breast sliding free its moorings in a low cut bikini top, I haven’t been privy to any summer sun action, sorry to say.

To tell you the truth I’m not even sure if bikinis are popular on ladies anymore. Last I saw it seemed some sort of boy-short was all the rage for bottoms while mix and matching tops were employed to make the suit complete. And it has been my experience that there are a hell of a lot of smokin’ hot one-pieces out there every bit as enticing as any bikini I have ever seen.

Either way, I saw none of them.

So I guess my opportunity is gone, the summer stretches to its end and all that bare-bikini flesh will be secreted away until next summer…when I will probably miss it all again.

Google & Gays

In another great show of the net’s never-ending solidarity for all peoples, Google is once again adding a rainbow round their search engine box for surfers look for “gay related keywords” (whatever that actually means) in their search engines. As they have done for the past four years, Google is showing their support for the gay and lesbian community during June the official Gay and Lesbian Pride month.

The great leveler that the net is, anyone who wishes to search for whatever it is they might want in their personal life-be it fetish, preference, information, partner-can find it pretty much anonymously and copiously on the net. Of course a lifestyle magazine like Von Gutenberg would want nothing less than all communities present and accounted for on the web, believing as we do that healthy curiosity, honest discourse and a fair amount of semi-naughty pics lead to greater understanding.  It just makes us happy and proud to be part of the online community with the magazine, website and even our www.vongutenbergcouture.com when a powerful entity like Google steps up like this.

It’s hard enough being part of a minority and it is empowering to know that we can go online to not only explore those desires some people might think should keep us part of a minority but to find like-minded folk who can support, share and interact with us over our those thoughts. Realizing that our penchant for leather or a need for a good spanking from time to time is shared by thousands; people who live and work among us; people of all ages and ethnicities, does make one feel less of a minority and simply part of the world at large.

So we lift our glass to Google this the official Gay and Lesbian Pride month and we of course give a hearty shout out to all our brothers and sisters of whatever community they happen to be in who yearn for better acceptance and understanding throughout the entire year.
