Marquis Fetish Ball Returns July 18, 9pm supper club, San Francisco 9pm
Violet Blue: The world’s premiere name in fetish-fashion culture brings upscale, debauched couture to SF
Legendary German magazine, Marquis, (marquis.de, NSFW) has whipped up a hot blend of sex, sensuality, rubber fetishes, global couture stylings, talented erotic performers, and beautiful models for over a decade. A visit to its Web site (marquisfetishball.com, NSFW) or blog (vongutenbergblog.com, NSFW) does not disappoint, but like the high price of the magazine itself, the community is member-only gated to lovingly preserve the passion for fetish fashion and culture in all its playful, dark mystique, bizarre fantasies, and far-end-of-the-sexual-fetish-pool obsessions.
Fetish fashion at its most extreme heights, combines couture and sexualized styles that would make Anna Sui and Marc Jacobs’ fantasies seem trite. And that’s only part of what makes fetish so fascinating — and hot. In recent years, fetish fashion has become more and more accessible, is more readily seen on catwalks and Hollywood films, and has increasing mainstream appeal. Until recently, Marquis was only available in certain adults-only stores — now, you can now find it at Borders. Fetish has landed in middle America, so it’s only fitting that the Marquis Fetish Ball kicks up its ponygirl hooves and high, rubberized heels in San Francisco for a night.
This weekend, the Marquis Fetish Ball will bring all the glamour and outrageous sexuality of fetish to San Francisco for one night of debauchery, performances, and amazing outfits. Let’s just say that if you are allergic to latex, you might want to avoid SOMA’s Supperclub on Saturday night. I’ve seen Marquis Magazine for sale in exclusive outlets since I was old enough to enter such establishments, so when I had a chance meeting with Mr. Marquis himself, Erik von Gutenberg, two weeks ago at Kink.com, I not only enjoyed the scent of his stunning rubber t-shirt and pants (so understated in black), I was excited to meet the man behind the empire. His graciousness, high, happy energy, sparkling eyes and enthusiasm for all things fetish was an exciting surprise. And to my delight, Erik took a minute to answer a few questions about the Marquis empire, and this weekend’s not-to-be-missed, outlandish fetish event.
Violet Blue: What are the fetish dress themes we might see at the Ball, and which is the most unusual you’ve ever seen?
Erik von Gutenberg: This Saturday, we will get some amazing outfits for body and mind which will be very close to the most unusual I have seen. We will see on stage extraordinarily beautiful fashion, and amazing models, which will be in stunning outfits, designed from the best couture designers nationwide. Then you will have the guys from seriousbondage.com who will have never-before-seen heavy latex and bondage gear on, which will be mind-blowing and simply great! As for themes, we will see different themes from ponyplay, to nurse uniforms or rubber military… and more.
VB: What inspired you to create the event, and what kind of atmosphere does the Marquis Fetish Ball aspire to?
EvG: Fetish is a deep desire and also a lifestyle for me. I like the material and the simple beauty of people and the desires that inspire them to develop their fantasies and think way outside of the fashion box. I want to see that kind of freedom and those events again in San Francisco after a long time of not having a fetish ball in town. The atmosphere will be to encourage everyone to simply enjoy themselves, and enjoy others, and be visually and spiritually charged with what will be happening around them.
This is the first Marquis Fetish Ball in the US and we have done many in the past in Europe, so we want also to bring this European spirit with us to the party.
VB: Marquis Magazine is now in the US and even nationwide in Borders bookstores — how do you see Marquis developing in the US and where will you guys develop your “signature” in the US?
EvG: Marquis America will be moving our brand much closer to the American customer. We are printing the magazine now here in the US and we are working very close with the German headquarters to cover the US fetish scene, as well as the scene in Europe.
Marquis America with (myself) Erik von Gutenberg heading it, will be all about fashion moving forward, latex and rubber and hot designs — as well as offering the latest and most current fetish news nationwide on our blog (vongutenbergblog.com, NSFW).
VB: What can attendees to this year’s San Francisco Ball expect to see?
EvG: Hot latex, sexy girls, stunning outfits, amazing performances, and fetish fashion shows with never-before-seen designs from Black Liquorish Latex Design and Antiseptic Fashion — and great house, trance, and industrial music with DJ Netik. It will be emceed by New York’s renowned designer and event presentrix The Baroness (thebaroness.com) and a live bondage performance by international fetish superstar Midori (planetmidori.com). There will also be live casting to find models for Marquis America and the Marquis Fetish Blog, an aerial performance by Evacide, live drawings by Suzanne Rachel Forbes — plus theme rooms, a midnight raffle, and much more.
The MARQUIS Fetish Ball (marquisfetishball.com) will be Saturday, July 18, at Supperclub — 657 Harrison Street, San Francisco. Doors open at 9pm. Tickets for the MARQUIS Fetish Ball are $45 at door, available online.
