Covered: JLo, Tess Holliday and our own Sabina Kelley

VG9-mag CVR1[2]Surely we are familiar with magazine covers of beautiful models (just see Sabina Kelley on our new Von Gutenberg issue #9.) These days women-and men-make the cover of a magazine for a multitude of reasons; for their beauty, their celebrity, for some present controversy they might be mining for the obligatory 15 minutes of fame. And sometimes what’s on the cover of a magazine, whether that magazine is a high couture fashion magazine or a weekly light entertainment publication, gets more press and is often even more interesting then what’s between the magazine’s pages for that issue.

Of course, this isn’t the case with V.G. #9!

Here’s two examples of covers that caught not just the eye but the blog ‘o scribble of many (this blogger included) this week.

In what seems a trend of late, another ‘larger’ size lady has made news posing for a magazine. This week we see Tess Holliday, a size 22 model, landing her first cover; she will appear on the front of the June 1st issue of People. Boasting 707, 000 Instagram followers, signed with MILK, already having worked for Torrid and Benefit, this plus-size model is certainly a popula…of a decidedly bigger size then is usually seen.

Continuing to stun (though God knows it’s not unusual with someone with this kind of world-wide visibility to keep themselves in shape) Jennifer Lopez is shocking the world once again, this time on the cover of the ‘best body issue’ of Us Weekly. Much is being made of the swimsuit JLo’s wears on this cover, showing as it does “reverse cleavage” coming as it does right after Lopez showed off copious “underboob” in her Charbel Zoe gown at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards last week.jlo-us-weekly-thatgrapejuice-600x814

Will we see more plus size women on the covers of magazine? We will be lucky enough to possibly catch “side boob” next time from JLo…have you ever seen a better background then the Las Vegas desert on our Sabina Kelley cover? Who can say. But somebody out there has probably got you covered.

Paris Hilton Fetish?

paris HIt’s not the first time we’ve seen her showing so much skin, nor the first time we have seen her sporting what we’d probably consider mainstream “fetish couture”; Paris Hilton indulged in what certainly has the makings of BDSM-themed wardrobe at NYC’s PH-D Rooftop Lounge last week.

Whether she is catching the wave of Fashion Weeks (the NYC one having happened the beginning of Sept.), looking to shock or simply enjoying the feel of leather gloves, the cutouts of a very revealing swimsuit, her thigh high boots, Paris was dressed for events like those we feature here. Photographer Renie Saliba, stylist Mark Jen Hsu, make-up artist Beau Derrick and hairstylist Ty Shearn had the blonde, lanky heiress looking about as far and away different from her usual soft half-lidded eyes look as possible. She looked good, chic, she look naughty, but she certainly still looked every bit as much Paris.

As we have all seen in many instances, far and away far from the models like Rubber Doll, Ophelia Overdose, Sabina Kelley whose work is indeed modeling fetish wear (and have also all worked with Von Gutenberg) Paris Hilton is another one of those celebrities who plays round the edges of alt. couture. And it’s not nessassarily a bad thing she does though, for when our more popular A-list-ers slip on something fetish-y (say Madonna and Katy Perry in that recent W magazine shoot…or even Ceine Dion who wore some very provocative and revealing outfits for a shoot a year or so back) it does get people to stand up and notice…and it gives a good old ‘shout out’ to those of us who work in the industry of alternative outfits.

As we applaud anyone anywhere wearing whatever they like, we recognize this recent foray of Paris Hilton’s to show a little more skin than usual in outfits that are not exactly in her wheelhouse.

Fetish alt. couture is in our wheelhouse…see here: http://vongutenbergcouture.com/

Sabina Kelley – burlesque dancer & pin up model

CMW3Erik von Gutenberg recommends Sabina Kelley. An international pin up model and burlesque star!

She specializes in Pinup, Fashion, Glamour, Fetish, Swimsuit, and Lingerie style shoots. Sabina:

I’ve been modeling professionally for 7 years and I’ve worked with some of the best photographers in the world including David LaChapelle and famous Pinup photographer Bunny Yeager. When I’m not modeling, I’m dancing. I’ve been dancing since I was 2 years old, and am trained in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, and pointe. I went from a small town ballerina to a big time Las Vegas Showgirl. I was a Showgirl at Ballys Hotel in Jubilee for 2 and a half years, and I’m currently a burlesque dancer that travels the world performing.

I am a heavily tattooed model and known very much for being the spokesmodel for tattoo conventions worldwide, and for being on the cover of numerous tattoo magazines. While some people love my tattoos there are people who would rather hire me without them. As of right now, I have two full sleeves. So I can wear long sleeves and make it look like I have no tattoos.

I also write my own Pinup article for each issue of Car Kulture Deluxe Magazine called “Pin Down Pinup”. If you want to learn more about the Pinup scene, my thoughts and opinions check out the magazine at www.CKDeluxeMag.com. If you have a suggestion or questions for me for my layout feel free to send me an email.
