The End Is Near?

So, you were hoping to get a discount next time you’re in the Bay Area looking to tour the Kink.com facility…well, think again. It seems super online discount giant Groupon has removed it’s deals on touring the infamous 200,000 square foot ex-National Guard Armory and Arsenal if San Francisco’s Mission district. Having attended a few kinky events at ‘The Castle’ I can tell you a tour of the place would put the lead in anyone’s pencil so I could understand why people were gobbling-up the $28 tickets. But as is often the case with anything seemingly ‘pornographic’, our old friends Christian watch-doggers “Morality in Media” called for a nationwide boycott (these groups really don’t do much of anything else, do they, but boycott, it seems to be their one marquis move) when it learned Groupon was offering bargains on the Kink.com tour as well as Playboy’s Roll n’ Roll Fantasy Camp….(God does not want anybody playing guitar with Mark Hudson even if it’s only for during a 2week music camp!)

These silly yet wide-reaching boycotts are nothing new from self-appointed do-gooders and we really can’t come down on Groupon too harshly; for the most part they are new to the game and God knows groups like Morality in Media are bullies who shout really loud and always seem to have the facility to do so. We all know Kink.com is doing fine all the way out there on the West Coast, we all wish them well with their parties and countless websites like Hogtied.com and Divine Bitches. I had just hoped that Groupon-freaking Groupon of all things!-could be spared this silliness.

Have a good story to relate about your time at Kink.com? Shoot us a post or email, we’d love to hear from you!

All The World's Indeed A Stage…

So, did you happen to know that Kylie Marilyn was crowned Miss Rubber World 2012 over the past weekend? See what happens when you don’t keep up with the Von Gutenberg Fantasy Event List, you just never know what kinky events are happening!  The rubber world site is here, have a look : http://www.nyrubberball.com/ or check out the doings on https://fetlife.com/groups/37640/group_posts/2336405 (at least to keep up with the next one, all these events just happened.)

Living in the NYC tri-state area as I do and where the VG studio/office/pirate Nutella factory happens to be I often feel we are in one of a handful of kink epicenters and as it is with the wide variety of food I can find in this area, I come to be spoiled with all that’s just a bus or train ride from me. I assume this is the way it is for you folks living in Berlin, London, San Francisco, any really big city. But when I look through the marquis happenings we happen to list in the FEL calendar I notice more and more the kinky events happening in places not the typically celebrated big cities, but places with a healthy lifestyle contingent who turn out time and again for a wild night out with the like-minded.

I had occasion to speak to our friend Mistress Jade Tiger for an interview that appears here (yes, a little cross promotion is good for us all) and she reminded me of a healthy underground of kinksters she used to work with when she lived in Charlotte N.C. of all places. Every time I turn around some other city I never would have even dreamed of supporting a kinky crowd pops-up with an event or a new club that rends my prejudices of small towns asunder. I know in some of the smaller suburban enclaves near my house there are munches that N.J.’s own KFE hosts monthly that see tons of kink enthusiasts.

So you never really know. This is why I tell you time and again to check our FEL, get yourself ready for a party or weekend convention, or just a munch.

You’ll be so happy you did.

So, Who Says What's Kinky?

Yes the weekend you are your play partner are at might be labeled a marquis kinky event. Yes, you might frequent Fetlife or shop in stores known for their adult toys (I have been lucky to hit one’s in London, NYC, L.A. and San Francisco-strictly for research purposes of course); you might even spend time with people who read Von Gutenberg magazine or you have turned-on a few folks to our pages; you might brag about a wardrobe that competes with our couture line, found here.

But rest assured, no matter how much you play, ruminate over or share some time with like-minded folk, nobody but nobody has a clear definition of what kinky really is.

And that’s the way it should be; one’s man meat is another’s poison and all that. If playing airline pilot and stewardess is your thing, then have it, just don’t try and convince me that this is the apogee of kinky then I’m into wearing my Jackboots everywhere and get-off on making my lover smell the sweaty socks I wear with them. I double-dog dare you to convince me that you have the clear objective definition of what kinky is, because I assure you you don’t.

Von Gutenberg is a decidedly lifestyle fetish magazine, more often than not showcasing latex and leather but you will see by our articles or all the kinky events we list on our Fantasy Event List that we include as many interests and happenings as we come in contact with and are always on the look-out for more.

From the mild to the wild it is up to you to determine which, if either works in your life and your specific definition of both.

Giving The Finger For Art

You know me, I like to champion the Von Gutenberg extended family when I get the chance…and we have lots of people in the family (if you’re not part of this marquis club, join us at the Von Gutenberg Facebook Fan Page here:http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/261144418631/). One of the folks/friends/fans/professionals featured in our latest issue is none other then writer M. Christian. Chris (to his friends, and who isn’t Chris’s friend, the guy is just so damn likeable!) is having fun prompting his latest book, Fingers’ Breadth.

I’ll let Chris tell you what’s he’s up to in his own imitable style. According to the latest PRESS RELEASE:

In what is clearly an act of pure desperation, author M. Christian has threatened to amputate part of one finger to publicize his new novel, Finger’s Breadth (Zumaya Books).

“The fact is, it’s getting harder and harder to get the word out about anything new, especially novels,” says M. Christian, whose biography includes over 400 short story sales, nine author collections, the editing of 25 anthologies, and six previous novels.  “Is it no surprise that writers are having to resort to obvious stunts to try and get their work noticed?”

When asked if the planned amputation is simply a publicity stunt, Christian responded with faux outrage: “A stunt?  A STUNT?!  Of course it’s a publicity stunt … these days writers have to be creative and, let’s be honest here, more than a bit outrageous if they are going to get noticed.  The book’s about a mysterious figure cutting off the tips of little fingers in a near-future noir San Francisco so a pretend self-amputation is just too damned perfect!”

No I know Chris, he’s one of those guys you would as much see at any of the industries fantasy events (listed on our Fantasy Even List at Twitter) as you would sit down and have over-priced eggs with. When it comes to what he is capable of you better believe as sure-as-shootin’ that those damn Zanti Misfits we’re gonna crawl up ol’ Bruce Dern’s leg, Chris has got enough other appendages (and the story is quite a few are very impressive…if you know what I mean) to not miss a digit or two in the selling of his art.
If you’re up for a good read check out Finger’s Breadth here:
Paperback: $15.99
ebook: $6.99

Yes, There Are A Lot Out There

Getting down now to the nitty gritty of what will be our issue #6, re-reading copy I wrote, making sure interviews line-up, recalling the lubing (yes, the terrible ordeal of lubing, I know I hear you sympathizing!) I realize that in order to even get a handle on just a small piece what latex fashion is about-fashion in general-one must concede that…there is a lot of stuff out there.

There is Deadly Fetish, Dawnamatrix and catsuits by Canadian designer Polymorphe. Corsets by AMF Korsets, boots by Pleasure and of course all those many wonderful items-toys, accoutrements and clothes from San Francisco’s own Stockroom. There are as many places to buy these things-our own Von Gutenberg Couture is replete with one-of-a-kind Von Gutenberg items-as there are outfits to look through and try on.

Then there are the ancillary fun pieces: gas makes and goggles, various medical equipment that feeds the lifestyle so well, and of course those toys, toys, toys… all the wonderful toys. Really, the deeper you get the deeper you want to go.

I know plenty of people who stick to only one specific piece and parcel of the lifestyle, others who dive head first and swim all their days and still others who occasionally drip a toe in, have fun for a weekend or two at any of the many events like we list on Fantasy Event List, then come home to wiggle into A-line skirts or three-piece power suits for their work week. Whatever, however ,wherever and no matter what you wear whenever, really I am reminded time and again, by even the tip of what I am exposed to that yes…there are a lot out there.
And we should be happy there are.

Rubberdoll at VON GUTENBERG Fetish Ball in San Francisco

FlyerPostcardsmErik von Gutenberg recommends RUBBERDOLL! She is unquestioned the Fetish superstararound the Globe! She will be coming to San Francisco to perform at the VON GUTENBERG Fetish ball in the supperclub Dec 5 for naughty Christmas!

Here more about Rubberdoll in an interview with Night weekly:

Meeting Rubber Doll is like meeting a female comic book hero in the flesh.  Wearing her super-high-heel boots, red latex catsuit and matching corset, she seems somehow larger, and certainly shinier, than life.

She has a knockout smile, which, when accompanied by a zipper perfectly positioned to reveal just the right amount of tantalizing cleavage, can easily throw a guy both physically and mentally off balance.  But, super powers aside, who is this chick?  (In case you’re wondering, no I won’t be revealing her real name, as I am sworn to protect her secret identity.)

Rubber Doll is a native of South Florida, and she currently resides in the Fort Lauderdale area.  As her name may suggest, she is a fetish model and performer.  Beyond that, she is a very canny and successful entrepreneur.

Starting out more than a decade ago in the Goth scene, an almost mythical time when such exquisite diversity could still be found on Miami Beach, the baby bat who would become Rubber Doll loved to dress up to go out.  And over time, she managed to collect a closet full of beautiful dresses and other gothic garments.  However, after visiting a fetish club, she sold all the velvet and satin, and bought clothes in a material with a little more kink: rubber.

“it was a total transformation to a point that a lot of people didn’t recognize me.”
Wearing rubber is an expensive pastime, that’s for sure.  The outfits she is wearing as we sit and talk would retail at more than $1,000 with some of her “really nice ones” costing as much as $2,000.

Her personal fetish goes beyond the clothes through.  Rubber Doll says she’s bisexual and particularly enjoys using such toys as strap-ons, a device known as the violet wand for electrical play and, of course, spanking, which almost goes without saying. Thwack!

When asked what she would say to those of more vanilla tastes who may be interested in finding out more about fetish, she replied, “Don’t be intimidated by  the unknown.  Explore and be surprised by how much you enjoy it.”

Rubber Doll discovered that she could earn a living with her passion and, being into the Internet, she started her own amateur site eight years ago to share her fetish with like-minded individuals.

“I went from an amateur site to making a living, “  she said, “never imagined it would really take off like this.  It was a lot of work and rewarding to see it grow”

Unlike the case of many women in the world of erotic entertainment, men are not exploiting Rubber Doll.  She is businesswoman first and, as she says, “started from nothing” she owns RubberDoll.net, makes and sells her own videos and organizes the photo shoots.

Currently, the shiny one is focusing on three aspects of her career – live performance.  Web sites and videos.  She thinks, however, that videos are going down as source of income as the Internet becomes an easier way to get film clips.

When asked the Rubber Doll will do when she’s 50, she thinks about it for a moment, and then the entrepreneur shines through the already shiny exterior.  The goal, she says, is to “move behind the camera.”

Her second website enterprise is called ShinySluts.com, and for this one girls, supplies wardrobe, does the make up and manages the production of the video clips and the still photography.  So. although not a professional dominatrix, this lady is certainly in charge.

Any she believes wholeheartedly that “everyone should follow their kink.”

Cybernet Expo in San Francisco

hd_sponsors

Erik von Gutenberg recommends the Cybernet Expo for everybody who wants to learn more about the adult business world and wants to network, make new friends and visit great forums and discussions.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, June 8, 2009 — Attendees for Cybernet Expo 2009 in San Francisco are encouraged to book their hotel rooms at the Golden Gateway hotel immediately, as the group’s room block is set to expire on Friday! That means this week is your last chance to get a guaranteed room at the Golden Gateway hotel for Cybernet Expo group rates. http://www.cybernetexpo.com/hotel.html

“The easiest way to get your room booked is to visit the CybernetExpo.com website and click on the ‘Hotel’ button,” explains Connor Young, President of YNOT.com, owners and operators of Cybernet Expo. “The hotel page has links to online booking, as well as the hotel’s phone number. If you call the hotel yourself, make sure to mention the group code ‘CCY’ for group rates.”

Cybernet Expo’s LAJ, the Director of Operations, says the time to delay is now over.

“I know a lot of people wait until the last minute to book a room, and guess what folks, it’s the last minute,” says LAJ. “We’d hate to have any of our supporters stuck outside the event hotel, so now’s the time to get this done.”

Cybernet Expo opens up on June 25th with the Intensive Training series of business classes, followed by the Rackco.com cocktail reception in the early evening and YNOT Opening Night party in the late evening. The Industry Insider series of panel discussions kicks off the next day, followed by the Webbilling.com Speed Networking session and D-Money’s Rock the Ball concert at the Red Devil Lounge. The show wraps up on the 27th with more classes and panels, followed by the Show & Sell Market and the closing night party at the Kink.com Armory Building.

It’s recommended that attendees check in on either the 24th or early on the 25th, and check out on the 28th. For more information about accommodations, please visit
