(Victoria’s) Angels Getting Married: Behati Prinsloo marries Maroon 5’s/The Voice’s Adam Levine

Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo engagedBehati Prinsloo married Maroon 5’s/The Voice’s Adam Levine on Saturday. From their seemingly whirlwind engagement in the summer of 2013, to a wedding that saw 200 strong flood the Floral Farms in Los Cabos, the super celeb couple hosted the obligatory Facebook posts, blogs about the nuptials and well wishers in their stepping-out as man and model.

Behati is Namibian born, becoming main lady of Victoria’s Secret sub-brandPrink in ’08, then a full flegged “Angel “ (yes complete with wings) the next year. She has walked the runway for Chanel, Zac Posen, Miu Miu and many others and has appeared on many fashion magazine covers…Vogue, L’Officiel and “V” to name but a few.

And because a wedding is all about the bride really-poor Levine just had to show up and look metro handsome-bloggers (such as yours truly is about to) made note of her Marchesa gown and Victoria’s Secret Angels Candice Swanepoel and (ex Angel) Erin Heatherton flittering around in their Rory Beca dresses.

Maroon 5 guitarist James Valentine played during the ceremony (as did the rest of the band later) as well as Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks and Sublime during the reception planned by star wedding planners Yifat Oren and Stefanie Cove.

Handsome, well known couples are certainly all the rage across the blog-o’-sphere. But whether or not the meeting of two people supporting super busy high profile careers a good marriage makes, time will tell in the case of Prinsloo and Levine. Still the affair seems to have made all the necessary news sources, plumped-up a goodly amount of fashion news and fed all our voyeurism for a least a day or so.

But Victoria’s Angels keep us all hopeful and lighter of step, knowing our wishes might come true, especially when they light down to earth to marry modern-day rock stars.

Turn About Is Fair Play In Fashion?

Victoria’s Secret supermodel Adrianna Lima certainly has a secret…that she showed to the world. The stunning brunette entered the II BrazilFoundation Gala Miami wearing a Alberta Ferrettie Spring 2012 runway gown…backwards. Doing so the silky back draping actually worked to present 31 year old Lima’s décolletage. The dress worn front or back, also features cutout side panels, great for those ladies with great legs, which Lima does sport.

As has been noted quite a bit lately Victoria’s Secret models are not the only ones to be so daring in their ‘turn about is fair play’ approach to fashion.

In 2009 Angelina Jolie wore her Max Azria to the SAG awards back-to-front and Amanda Seyfried did the same with a Bodyamr cocktail dress this year. Rachel Bilson turned things around, Celine Dion was seen in a now infamous reverse Dior tuxedo and Laura Whitmore’s tweet about turning her outfit around: “Wearing my dress backwards INTENTIONALLY” equals Lima’s own of: “Imperfection is beautiful.”

This odd practice (which I am sure sends some designers into a tail spin and might speak more to how absolutely bored some celebs might be) seems so prevalent actress Sigourney Weaver had to defend her Lanvin ensemble recently by declaring: “I did not wear it backward. The label is huge, so you’d have to be a cretin not to know which way to put it on.”

Will this odd trend continue? Will designers begin to create with the practice in mind? Time will tell, as it always does in the fashion world.

It’s No Secret

As ‘Hercules Strong’, media critic on the website aint-it-cool-news.com opined: “CBS’s  Victoria’s Secret special did a lot better in the Vegas slot last Tuesday than Vegas ever did.”

I ask: is anybody surprised that the special of scantily clad models would do better then a run-of-the-mill T.V. drama?

Let’s face it, high-end sexy fashion is as mainstreamed as mainstreamed can get and yes, though I am aware of what demographic makes-up a lot of the audience for these specials, there is no denying how super popular the yearly VS show is and how they give everyday America (and the rest of the world actually) a great chance to see some startlingly cool new lingerie and also performances of some of today’s more popular musical acts.

Fashion mixing with popular music, T.V. and celebrity is nothing new (Victoria’s Secret actually snagged ole Bob Dylan for an advertisement in 2004, if you recall) but trotting out stunning beautiful beauties wearing very little on late night T.V. is a rather new phenomena.

Begun in 1995, the Victoria’s Secret ‘Runway Angels’ (you’ve seen the runway models sporting wings, right?) have been strutting into the hearts, minds and libidos of all who watch them on the special’s night or those who stream some video of the night later. This year none other than Rihanna (up on the catwalk with some models) joined in the bra and panty revealing (I mean to say she sang, she didn’t strut really!) along with Bruno Mars and Justin Bieber. “I would rather be here than anywhere in the world.” Bieber commented, proving the kid might be young but he certainly understands the important things in life.

The whole V.S. thang was begun by Roy Raymond back in 1977. He was embarrassed when purchasing lingerie for his wife Gayle, routing round a department store through fuzzy bathrobes and the like and thought there should be a store in the mall that sold lingerie exclusively and made it easier for men to go in a buy their wives or girlfriends something sexy (or actually for men to buy themselves the present their significant others would wear for them). Now the brand has become synonymous with all kinds of naughty, yet high-end wear. This year’s show, taped on Nov. 8th in New York featured those amazing angels-Doutzen Kroes, Adriana Lima, Joan Small, Candice Swanepoel, Lily Aldridge-to name a few and due to the recent upheavals on the upper east coast of the U.S. (especially in the N.Y. area) VS and CBS (the network that aired the special that beat out Vegas) each donated to Sandy relief efforts.

Every year there is usually a wickedly expensive piece of lingerie featured, something that most of us could never afford and this year Alessandra Ambrosio donned a jewel-heavy “Fantasy Bra” (that’s rubies, sapphires and diamond jewels) priced as $2.5 million.
