Oscar Couture 2014: The Good, The Bad and The McConaissance Of Fashion

Jared Leto OscarWe really do get so caught up with the pomp and circumstance. We know it is all just A-list asslicking, still we get wrapped up. Surely Angelina Jolie doesn’t need any more recognition, Julia Roberts another moment to seemingly be amazed or Meryl Streep another nomination. And God knows the whole blessed thing goes on far too long. But we will never give up our love for Oscar night…or Oscar couture.

This year we had Jennifer Lawrence tripping outside not even ‘in’ the theater yet…as she did tripping up the stairs on the way to accepting her Oscar last year. This time she wore a trippingly fantastic form-fitting orange/red strapless number from Dior. Lupita Nyong’o was in Prada blue that she designed herself. Leonardo DiCaprio wore an Armani tux. Best actor Matthew McConaughey sported contrasting Dolce & Gabbana jacket and pants and Jared Leto white Saint Laurent shirt and jacket, black pants and red bow tie.

So there was a lot to see, lots for E TV to cover and everybody else to quibble over. Plenty of fashion designers got shout-outs and there were hours pre the show to get a good look at everybody. It all made for another great turn where we watched, wished and applauded as Hollywood patted itself on the back.

Host Ellen Lee DeGeneres broke Twitter with a seflie, “Gravity” grabbed a whole bunch of technical awards. Bruce Dern got passed over but the 86th Academy Awards came and went with its fashions and we took notice.

Take notice of what is happening in Von Gutenberg issue #8 with cover girl Megan Massacre.

If You Don't Like It, Just…

It’s amazing to me in this day and age how people-some political pundits, some religious zealots, even so-called psychologists-are still going on and on about porn and adult entertainments. Writing for the industry as I do here and a few other places I always err on the side of: if you don’t like it, don’t look at it.

Am I being naïve?

We try to make Von Gutenberg magazine the very best visual representation of the latex lifestyle we can, but we still realize this is a niche interest. Hell, I’d love for everyone the world over to flip open our pages or come to our website, I am truly proud of what we do. But I know Von Gutenberg, like every other magazine out there, doesn’t cater to everyone’s tastes. The way I figure it, if you pick up a copy of the magazine-wonderful!-if you happen across this blog and it makes you giggle once or twice-fantastic! If you suddenly find you’re interested one of the kinky events listed in the calendar of our Fantasy Event List then God’s speed Shadowfax, go and enjoy (just makes sure you take pics and send them to me). But not everything is for everybody’s taste all the time.

Really if you don’t like what you see, close the book; turn off the T.V.; spin the dial. It’s your right to do so and please, monitor the kids as best you can. Really, they shouldn’t be exposed to the sexy stuff until they are really ready to be.

It just seems to be that to truly be a marquis player in the world of popular opinion you need to have a truly fire-and-brimstone opinion these days, whether pro or con something and nothing divides people more then what it is we think and do to fire-and-brimstone our libidos.

How We All Keep In Touch

Sometimes I realize I might be remiss in pointing out some obvious facts about what’s always happening here at Von Gutenberg.

First of all, as you all must know by now our issue #5 is out. It features the beautiful Jean Bardot as over cover girl (plus a great Jean interview and more pics within), designers Inner Sanctum, AMF Kortsets and Ectomorph, models Kendra James, Angela Ryan and Taylor Wane,  a story by yours truly and our usual round-up of lifestyle news…plus a ton of other stuff. We are very proud of this latest issue of what we always view as a collector’s magazine, and feel issue #5 is the best Von Gutenberg yet. Then there is our presence on Facebook, most notably here:  VGFACEBOOK FANS. If you haven’t already we’d love for you to sign up as a fan and let us know what’s going on with you to.  You know as well as I how Facebook is really so important in all of our lives.

Then there is our couture clothing line here: VG COUTURE. This is our online store through Facebook and it’s certainly worth a look-see if you’re interested in all the hot clothes you see in our magazine and the other items we sell.

What we’re trying to do here is what everybody else is trying to to…keep in touch. With so much information coming at us at all times, it’s hard really to sift through what’s most important in our lives, but the good thing about Facebook updates and tweets (and yes we tweet to) is that none of us have to really expend all that much effort just to say hi on occasion, let it be known what’s happening and share some info about what we might be up to. Seeing that you’re already reading this blog there have got to be plenty of places where our interests join and believe me, you all turn us on to as many great places, people and things as I hope we might turn you on to.

Club Subversions 6th Birthday in London

Erik von Gutenberg is proud to announce the 6th birthday of Club Subversion in London November 6, 2010.

DOUBLE CELEBRATIONS! We are delighted to announce that not only are we SIX YEARS OLD on the 6th November we also move into our NEW VENUE! We can’t promise we won’t move or get moved again but hopefully we will be here for a while. What we can promise is that you will love this venue. For those of you who love to play we have a huge dungeon area including a separate medical room and a separate couples room and for those of you who like to dance there is a basement dance room….and it is just down the road from where Subversion used to be held so you should know the area well!

As you would usually expect from Subversion the playrooms will be crammed full of lovely equipment from Playpenz and we will have our lovely resident DJs kicking ass on the decks. If you are a regular Subversion goer then you have to come and help us celebrate this double whammy, if you have only been a few times then this is an event not to be missed and if you have never been before then what are you waiting for? This is bound to be a seriously kinky event.

The theme for the birthday month is 666 to tie in with our 6th birthday being on the 6th, feel free to make up where the last 6 comes from! So think dark twisted thoughts and with it being so close to Halloween you should be able to come up with some fun outfits. Please remember Subversion has a strict fetish dress code, in fact we are renowned for it and it is even mentioned in the  Subversion review for the London Fetish Weekend Special on the Fetishistas site……there are lots of photos on there from the weekend too.
